Hi guysI think serious msiucians are putting out albums and are ignoring the general population's need for soundbites and personal devices. They are making albums for their fan bases and counting on touring for their major incomes. Most msiucians have second jobs because of necessity, and a lot of that comes down to pirating or stealing, whatever you want to call it. The favourites of the music industry are the packaged stars that will turn huge profits. This has always been the case. The difference in the past was that corporations used to take a percentage of that mega-money and use it to fund up-and-comings; not so much anymore. The book publishing industry still, for the most part, uses their mega-sellers to also release lesser-known authors. I believe the reason is that you can't easily steal a 400 page novel. I think this further proves the point music is too easy to get and now it will ruin what was a good, though certainly not perfect, working structure before. Because of stealing, music corps profess to having to keep more of the profits to survive, and we can see even that is not working. How many bands that we follow and love are now signed to majors? Very few in my collection. So what does all this come down to? To me, the real music fan is not stealing he or she is buying legally and still working though proper channels. I think there is a direct correlation between the fan and honesty (there are always exceptions of course). True listeners are in the minority, therefore, because they have a moral fortitude born out of respect for the artists. |
