Well in the sixties there was this thing cellad marketing. The Beatles were marketed to death. There was also a great deal of conformism at the time. You see if you didn't do the same thing the other teenagers were doing you were branded as WEIRD. Today you have more individualism. This ones a punker or a goth, that ones a preppie (or whatever you kids call them now). In those days everyone dressed the same and acted the same. It was as if they were all cut out of the same mold. The hippie generation got society out of that habit. Anyway about the Beatles. Many people were told that they like the Beatles and they, in order to not be different, did what they were told. They were the ultimate sheeple. Listen to other music of the day -Herman's Hermits, Peter, Paul and Mary, The Ventures, The Buckinghams, The Chantels (who originally did the song Pipeline), and other bands of same ilk. None were particularly good to today's standards. The music was more simple. You could learn four chords, grow out your hair and then get a gig as a musician (The Byrds had a song about that). The Rolling Stones were one of the bands that changed that by making things that were more technical, with more effects and adding an orchestra to rock music which was never heard of at that time.Personally I never cared for the Beatles. I never thought their writing was very clever. Any idiot can sing yeah yeah yeah and play four chords but a clever idiot gets marketed. Was this answer helpful? |
